Transatlantic Austerity

In the third talk of the Volta series on the The Financial Crisis R Tamborini, on Monday 17th November at 6.00 pm , undertakes a thorough comparative analysis of fiscal policies after the Great Recession of 2008-09. The poster of the seminar can be downloaded here.

While fiscal austerity after the recession was common, the extent of it varied considerably from country to country and - argues R Tamborini - comparison is informative.  He measured both fiscal austerity and its impact on public finances, interest rates, economic output and employment and, against prevaling dogma, his analysis demonstrates that fiscal austerity failed to improve public finances and promote economic recovery.
